To procrastinate or not to procrastinate

Have you been a situation where you know in your ‘knower’ that you need to complete a task by a given deadline and yet you find one hundred and one excuses to avoid it doing it? Has there been an occasion in your life, that when you actually sit down to do the given task, you mind suddenly wonders and before you know it, you are scrolling though social media or watching telly and then…. you suddenly feel bad or feel guilty….. Do you know why I am asking you these questions, it’s because friend, that I’ve been there. I know how frustrating it is. However, much we run away from doing the actually task, it’s just not going away, the task, however, small, will still be waiting for us, obediently to be completed.

So how do we overcome procrastination, the thief of time? The first method is to time yourself. Set your alarm clock, even if it is for 10 minutes, then tackle that task. Don’t stress if you haven’t completed it, the key is that you have taken action. It’s just not ten minutes, it’s ten minutes of progress, it’s ten minutes of taking action and it’s ten minutes of moving forward. Next time, increase the time by five minutes, do 10–15 minutes daily this week working towards your task then increase to 15–20 minutes daily the following week if you can. Small steps, baby steps, will move you in the right direction towards achieving your goals.
